Tapestry

The Key Person Approach

Before your child begins at our nursery, we will visit you at home. This home visit allows us to get to know your child in a familiar and comfortable environment, helping ease the transition to nursery. During this visit, we will also ask you to complete an "All About Me" form to gain a better understanding of your child’s interests, preferences, and needs.

Once your child starts at our nursery, they will be assigned a dedicated staff member who will be their ‘Key Person.’ While all our nursery staff will get to know your child well, the Key Person plays a special role in supporting their emotional well-being, helping them settle into nursery life, and becoming a trusted figure they can rely on. The Key Person will observe how your child learns through play and ensure their individual care and developmental needs are met. They will also serve as your main point of contact for any questions or concerns you may have.

We will inform you of your child’s Key Person a few weeks after they start at nursery. This allows us time to observe how your child interacts with different team members and to ensure the best match based on your child’s needs, interests, and the relationships they form.

At Merstham Primary School, we use an online platform called Tapestry to regularly document your child’s progress. We make detailed observations, capturing what your child says and does, and we share plenty of photos to keep you updated on their learning journey.

We operate an open-door policy, so if you ever have any questions or need further information, please feel free to come and speak with us.
